Adv. Derek Müller, born on October 30, 1963, in Pretoria, South Africa, is a highly experienced legal and financial professional. Fluent in Afrikaans and English, he is passionate about classic literature and DIY projects. Derek was admitted as an Advocate of the Supreme Court in 1992 and is a Fellow of the Institute of Life and Pension Advisors (FILPA). He specializes in Mine Rehabilitation Financial Guarantees.
He holds a BIuris and LLB from UNISA and became a Certified Financial Planner at the University of the Free State in 1993. Derek’s career began as a Senior Estate Examiner for the Department of Justice, followed by a lecturing role at Justice College. He then worked as a Senior Legal Advisor at Old Mutual, before managing Offshore Investments and Trusts at Business Bank. Since 2000, he has been an Independent Financial Advisor and Trust Practitioner, focusing on the mining, energy, and construction sectors.
Derek has made significant contributions to his field, including serving on the local committee of the Institute of Life and Pension Advisors (ILPA) and being recognized as Top Legal Advisor at Old Mutual. He became the first non-international broker in South Africa to specialize in Commercial Short-Term Payment Guarantees. Derek now serves as the Legal and Finance Advisor for the CTAP Advisory Board, leveraging his expertise to guide strategic initiatives and ensure effective risk management.
